Al’s paintings are an exploration of the Scottish landscape, its shifting skies and distant horizons.

He has a background in design and creative direction which brings a considered structure to his compositions while allowing space for spontaneity and expressive mark-making. His process involves revisiting locations multiple times, gathering sketches and photographs, and returning to the studio to translate those impressions into textured, atmospheric works.

Al’s approach is rooted in observation but shaped by memory and appreciation. He aims not only to depict the scene, but to evoke an emotional response, inviting the viewer to slow down, breathe, and engage with the subtleties of light, form and feeling that define the land - to take a journey to places visited and enjoyed.

He exhibits mainly in Scottish galleries throughout the year.
